Macedonia Brook State Park

Nothing like weeks upon weeks of rain to dampen the hiking spirits. Ugh!

Just wanted to let people know that this coming weekend (June 16 - 18) I'll be at Macedonia Brook State Park camping and if anyone wants to get together out there for a day hike, that'd be fun. It's on the western border of CT, so I know it's far, but if anyone is interested let me know so we can figure out a time/day/place to meet. Here's the website:

Hike Planning

What's with all this rain!? I'm hoping it'll be over with soon so we can get some hiking in. For now though, here are some background questions to help us plan things in the future. If you could all take some time and answer them, that'd be great! My answers are listed after the questions.

1) What's your skill level?

2) What kind of terrain do you prefer?

3) What length (miles) of hike do you prefer?

4) Do you prefer an afternoon or morning hike or all-day hikes (or multi-day)?

5) How far are you willing to drive?

6) How familiar are you with hikes in your area?

7) Would you like to lead/organize hikes?

8) Any other special considerations or requests? (disabilities, dogs, children, etc.)

My answers:
1) moderate
2) i like a pretty good challenge, on shorter hikes - rocky/steep, but i enjoy gentler paths too
3) 3-10 miles, depending on time and terrain
4) partial-day hikes generally fit my schedule better, but if planned in advance i'm up for all-day or multi-day hikes.
5) I'd say 30-45 mins for a partial day hike, up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours for a whole day hike, longer for a multi-day or camping thing
6) I'm familiar with what town and state parks are nearby, but I definately still need the trail maps!
7) I'd be interesting in organizing & leading hikes, but I'm interested in seeing what other people come up with too
8) I'd love to do photo-hikes, which would be sort of slower paced as there'd be lots of stops along the way to take pictures

I am new to Manchester, CT. Saw your craigslist posting and would love to join you on some hikes. New to tribe.com too-not quite sure what I'm doing! :)

Hope you are doing a hike sometime soon (if it stops snowing/raining!).

Hi all - just wondering if anyone was still around. I know this page has been pretty neglected. I'm jobless now so I have the motivation to get the tribe going and to get out there and hike now that the weather's nice! Anybody free during the week?

Hi new members! Sorry I've been neglecting my tribe due to the initial lack of interest. Anyway, to get us up and running, maybe we can introduce ourselves...

I'm Diana *waves* and I've been in the Hartford area for almost a year now. I'm planning my wedding (it's in October) and I've got several others to attend this summer, so I'll be scarce as far as hiking availablility. But hopefully I can help organize and motivate other people to get together in the meantime!

I'm glad you transferred over! Sorry it took me a while to post this up, I've been quite busy lately!

Hopefully we can get some more people to come over, and if not maybe we can set some hikes up anyway.
